There are numerous reports generated by market analysis companies but they are generally less useful than desired. Since the primary expertise in WLAN & WPAN technology and market trends resides within the IEEE membership it appeared that we could materially improve the situation by offering guidance to the industry. The initial action item is to review and agree upon basic market structure and terminology definitions for 802.11 WLANs. Additionally, initial market size projections will be collected from the attendees. These outputs will be refined and expanded to include WPANs over the course of the next few meetings.
