3. THE LIFE OF INDIANA STATE Indiana State is situated in the north of the USA. The aria is 94 thousand sq. km. The population is 5499 thousand people. The urban population is 64%. Indianapolis is the capital of the state. The biggest cities are Fort-Wane, Garry, Avancewill, South-Bend. The state has got the political status in 1816.The surface of Indiana is mainly the plain in the north and hills in the south near plato Cumberland in Ogaioriverdale.The territory has fertile fields rich vegetation. The climate is moderate and mild.

5. INDIANAPOLIS Indianapolis, the capital of the state, is the administrative, cultural, industrial and trade centre. It has the international airport The city is the centre of rail and high-way communication. It has various industries: automobile, mechanical engineering, color metallurgy. There are two universities in the city, a lot of art galleries and museums. The population is 742 thousand people, with suburbs -1,5 million inhabitants. Indianapolis is located in White Riverdale.

PLACES OF INTEREST The Dome, the new Convention Center, the Westin Hotel overlook the Capitol Commons park and connect to the Circle City Mall and other hotels by enclosed skywalks over the streets. This beautiful park in downtown Indianapolis hides a large underground parking lot, and is adjacent to the Westin Hotel (left), the state office buildings (center) and the State House (right).

8. WAR MEMORIALS Monument Circle was erected in 1887-1901. The ashlar limestone monument, built to honor those who served in the Civil War was designed by the German Architect, Bruno Schmitz. Atop the 284 ft. structure stands the statue Victory, better known to Hoosiers as Miss Indiana. The monument commemorates the valor and fortitude of Indiana’s soldiers and sailors in all wars before World War I. The glass-enclosed balcony, 231.2 ft. above ground, is reached by an elevator plus stairs or by 330 steps. Museum in basement has artifacts and pictures from Civil War and Spanish-American War.

10. OUR PEN FRIENDS FROM INDIANAPOLIS Let us introduce our pen pals from the USA: Becca Collins is 13, she is in the 6 grade. Her hobby is writing poetry, singing and playing the guitar. Becca doesn’t like to study, she gets Bs, but she is fond of computer. She likes to read books about teenage girls. She has many friends, and they enjoy there spare time walking, going to movies and parties. Becca dreams to become a singer and to move to Italy. She is glad to have friends from Russia.

12. MEET AMERICAN TEENAGERS Haley lives in Indianapolis, she is 12. Her favourite subjects are maths and literature. Her hobby is music and her passion is dancing. Haley likes to make bracelets. She dreams to have a dog. Haley’s family is large: she’s got 1 brother and 2 sisters. Her dad is a doctor and her mom is a stay-at-home mom. Haley’s got many reliable and truthful friends. They have a wonderful dance group at school. Haley likes to go to the Zoo and museums or watch basketball and football games.
