10/27/2015©2009, Three Canoes9 Sakai Versioning David R: Does anyone have any know when Sakai 2.6 is scheduled to be released? Last thing I heard was early June? Three Canoes Answer: Sakai 2.6 will be released when it is fully ready. The projected release date is currently sometime in July 2009. Marc, Virginia Tech: Do the OSP 2.6 changes apply to preexisting projects (from 2.5.x, e.g.) or only new ones or do they need rebuilding? Three Canoes Answer: The 2.6 changes apply to existing OSP implementations when the instance is upgraded to the new version of Sakai. However, the new UX for creating and sharing portfolios is most useful if your portfolio template includes form data as one type of input. If instead, users create portfolios from a completed matrix, then the matrix supplies the form instances to the portfolio, eliminating the option for users to create form instances on the fly.

10/27/2015©2009, Three Canoes10 OSP Data Structure Resources Mike Ozornin: Is there any preconfigured portfolio demo site, where people that are going to use OSP can view examples? Three Canoes Answer: rSmart has a Portfolio Showcase that is included with their release of the rSmart CLE and can be accessed via the Project: Portfolio page on Sakai Confluence at http://bugs.sakaiproject.org/confluence/display/OSP/Project+-- +Portfolio. There are web pages on the showcase that explain several archetypes and data structures to download and experiment with.http://bugs.sakaiproject.org/confluence/display/OSP/Project+-- +Portfolio Janet de Vry: Do any wizards come with 2.6? Three Canoes Answer: Data structures are available in the OSP Library for you to download and install in your instance. The OSP Library can be located via http://www.osportfolio.org. However, the site is temporarily down. The site will be repaired soon and the link to it will be posted at http://bugs.sakaiproject.org/confluence/display/OSP/Project+--+Portfolio. http://www.osportfolio.org http://bugs.sakaiproject.org/confluence/display/OSP/Project+--+Portfolio will @ serensoft: You might also look at http://openedpractices.org for OSP-related resources.http://openedpractices.org

10/27/2015©2009, Three Canoes11 OSP Workflows Scott Mahler: Is there a way to accommodate a 'learning plan' or 'plan of study' within OSP? Three Canoes Answer: Yes, OSP workflows can be designed to support any number of educational processes. This is one case where consulting with experienced implementers of OSP would be most beneficial. Michael Hurley: Can a portfolio be associated with a specific course or project? We'd be like to be able to share a portfolio with an entire course. Three Canoes Answer: Yes, you control this by creating a portfolio site for the group you want to go through the process (course, project, etc.) and adding the participants as members of the site.

10/27/2015©2009, Three Canoes12 Wizards Brian Dashew (Marist): Do you apply wizards to specific cells within a matrix? Three Canoes Answer: Matrices are a type of wizard. When you set up a workflow you choose either a matrix or a wizard - the two do not interact. However, A cell in a matrix is really the same thing as a page in a wizard, even though one cannot substituted for the other and the two cannot interact with each other.

10/27/2015©2009, Three Canoes13 Portfolios Janet de Vry: Is the term portfolio being used for what used to be called presentation portfolios? Three Canoes Answer: In earlier versions of Sakai/OSP, what are now called portfolios were called presentations. The term portfolio in Sakai/OSP can refer to the user’s entire collection of artifacts or to a subset of artifacts shared with another. Janet de Vry: How many different portfolios can you have? Three Canoes Answer: There is no limit to the number of portfolios a user can create from any particular portfolio template.

10/27/2015©2009, Three Canoes14 Portfolio Content Michael Hurley: Does all of the content in the portfolio have to come from my resources? Or, could it live someplace else on the web? Three Canoes Answer: A portfolio template or a rich text editor within a portfolio form or portfolio layout can facilitate hyperlinking or linking to external URLs. Portfolios can also be created from completed matrices, wizards, and assignment data.

10/27/2015©2009, Three Canoes15 Portfolio Templates Christian Aziz (Rutgers): For users to create a second form instance of the same from type, do you have to update the XSL instructions in the portfolio template? Three Canoes Answer: For users to be able to include more than one instance of a form type in a portfolio, Step 3 of in creating the portfolio template in Sakai has to allow multiple form instances of the form type and the XSL file for the portfolio template must also reflect that choice of content. Brian Dashew (Marist): Is there a way to limit which forms you have access to pick from at each drop down? Three Canoes Answer: In Step 3 of the portfolio template building process, the site organizer selects which forms in the site will be available for users to include in their portfolios. Only content chosen in this step and reflected in the XSL for the portfolio template will appear in the drop down list for user selection.

10/27/2015©2009, Three Canoes16 Sharing Portfolios Mike Ozornin: If I want to create a tutors' portfolio list, should I create a site, add the tutors as participants in the site and ask them to fill out portfolios? After that, will guests (if I give them permissions) be able to view the portfolios? Three Canoes Answer: This scenario is accurate except that the viewing of portfolios is currently controlled by the owner of the portfolio. You can, however, instruct the tutors in the portfolio site to share their portfolios with a specific role (such as evaluator) in the site. Mike Ozornin: Can I add «.auth» role (for all registered users) to the portfolio sharing list? Three Canoes Answer: Yes, you can add roles to portfolios sites via the site template. Adding this role and asking users to select the role to share their portfolios with would allow all users in the site to view all portfolios. Gregg Alpert: Is there any way to control the content of the invitation emails? Three Canoes Answer: Participants in a site can add a personal message to an invitation to view a portfolio, but changing the overall process would require additional coding.

10/27/2015©2009, Three Canoes17 Plagiarism Fiona Chrystall: Has anyone figured out a way to determine authorship of resources/docs uploaded to a portfolio? Three Canoes Answer: Some institutions use http://www.turnitin.com in tandem with Sakai to search out plagiarism. See the Sakai Confluence page on using turnitin.com with assignments at http://bugs.sakaiproject.org/confluence/display/SAKDEV/TurnItIn+Integrati on?focusedCommentId=38994347#comment-38994347. The Resources tool also has two useful features that can help users document the origin and copyright status of their artifacts via “Edit Details.”http://www.turnitin.com http://bugs.sakaiproject.org/confluence/display/SAKDEV/TurnItIn+Integrati on?focusedCommentId=38994347#comment-38994347

10/27/2015©2009, Three Canoes18 Portfolio Comments Gregg Alpert: Can the portfolio owner limit/control the comments (e.g., can I keep comments from being shared with others)? Three Canoes Answer: Yes, you can make someone else’s comments on your portfolio public or private. Salwa Khan-Texas State: Can you delete comments? Three Canoes Answer: Any comment writer can delete his/her own comments at any time and, after posting the comment, can make it private or shared with the owner of the portfolio. When others comment on your portfolio and share those comments with you, you can make those comments public to anyone or private to only you and the writer of the comment. You can stop new comments from coming in by removing the option for others to add comments to a particular portfolio, but you cannot delete existing comments on your portfolio unless they are your own.
