What is the main idea about this topic / paragraph What does this mean? Do I understand what the text is talking about? What does this remind me of? Where have I seen this before? What will happen, or be discussed next?

2. Taking Notes as you Read Read the objectives: this gives you a quick idea of main points to know. Read the Activity: this helps you focus on finding and taking notes on the information needed. Identify the main ideas: What is the big picture? What is the focus of this small section? Identify supporting detail: What examples and data are they giving to explain the main idea? Vocabulary: list each bolded, italicized, and unfamiliar word. Write the sentence in which it is found. Search the meaning in a dictionary. Make sure you chose the definition that fits the context of the sentence you have. In your head, substitute the definition where the word is and see if it still makes sense.

3. Writing Relies on the Information You Gather – it is up to you to arrange it and make it unique. Have your notes out. Have the objectives, directions, and rubric for the activity. I am writing this letter in the hopes of shedding some light on the very debatable topic of nature versus nurture. I believe that children who have parents that are athletic tend to be athletic as well. I believe that we are what we are based upon the way in which we were made. I agree with the theory of nature as this theory goes along with the way in which I feel about genetic tendency. Our genetics are determined by parents. If a parent excels at something, their children are going to excel as well. The theory of nature versus nurture is a very debatable, often arguable topic.
