2 DAMAGE CONTROL ► Responsibility of ALL HANDS ► Engineer Officer- responsible for Damage Control Petty Officer’s (DCPO) training, repair parties, and repair locker personnel ► DCPO’s normally serve for 6 months ► Gas Free Engineer- determines if it’s safe for personnel to enter closed/ poorly ventilated spaces ► Communication System- 1MC is integrated w/ an alarm signal system  X4OJ

3 MATERIAL CONDITIONS OF READINESS ► XRAY  LEAST protection.  Set during normal working hours in port ► All fittings with X or circle X are closed when set ► YOKE  Greater security than x-ray.  Set at sea & in port during wartime ► All fittings marked with X’s, Y’s, circle X, and circle Y are closed when set ► ZEBRA  GREATEST degree of protection  Set when ► GQ is sounded ► Entering/leaving port in wartime ► To localize damage ► Whenever the CO deems necessary  All fittings marked with an X, Y, Z, and all circle X, Y, Z as well as Dog Zebra when set

4 COMPARTMENT CHECKOFF LIST (CCOL) ► List of all fittings and closures in that space ► DCPO will maintain CCOL for their assigned space ► Posted near the entrance in each space

6 CLASSES OF FIRES ► ALPHA- Wood, cloth, paper ► BRAVO- Flammable liquids, fuel, oil ► CHARLIE- Energized electrical fires ► DELTA- Combustible metals

7 METHODS OF EXTINGUISHING FIRES ► ALPHA  Water in straight or fog pattern ► BRAVO  AFFF, Halon 1212, Halon 1301, PKP ► CHARLIE  CO2, Halon 1211, water spray ► DELTA  Water in quantity in fog patterns

8 RADIATION ► ALPHA PARTICLES  Have little skin-penetrating power and must be taken into the body through ingestion or cuts to be injurious ► BETA PARTICLES  Can present a hazard to personnel if the emitters of these particles come into contact with the skin or get inside the body ► GAMMA PARTICLES  Can penetrate every region of the body. Will cause atoms they strike in the body to ionize ► NEUTRONS  GREATEST penetrating power

9 TYPES OF WARFARE ► CHEMICAL  Affects blood, nerves, eyes, skin, lungs, or stomach ► BIOLOGICAL  Intentional use of living organisms, toxins, and microtoxins to disable or destroy people, domestic animals, crops, and supplies ► NUCLEAR  4 types of blasts ► High altitude blast- over 100,00 feet ► Air blast- below 100,000 feet, but doesn’t touch Earth’s surface ► Surface Blast- fireball touches Earth’s surface ► Subsurface (underwater) burst- creates large bubble, expels steam, gas, debris in the air  2 types of nuclear radiation ► Initial ► Residual

10 MOPP ► MISSION ORIENTED PROTECTIVE POSTURE ► MOPP LEVELS  4 ► LEAST PROTECTIVE? 1 ► MOST PROTECTIVE? 4

11 FIRST AID ► Purpose:  To save life  Prevent further injury  Limit infection ► Primary tasks:  Maintain breathing  Stop bleeding/ maintain circulation  Prevent or treat for shock

12 Enlisted Service Record ► Page 1- Enlisted contract ► Page 2- Dependency application/ Record of Emergency Data ► Page 4- Enlisted qualifications ► Page 13- Administrative remarks form

13 Personal Qualification Standards Program (PQS) ► Divided into 3 sections:  1. Fundamentals (100 series)  2. Systems (200 series)  3. Watch Stations (300 series)

14 COMMISSIONING PROGRAMS ► CHIEF WARRANT OFFICER (CWO)  MUST BE E-7, E-8, OR E-9  AT LEAST 12 YEARS OF SERVICE  NO MORE THEN 24 YEARS SERVICE ► LIMITED DUTY OFFICER (LDO)  MUST BE E-7 OR E-8 ► NOTE: E6 that have completed all the requirements for CPO, have taken the E-7 exam and have a final multiple equal or greater than the final multiple to pass are eligible for the program  AT LEAST 8 YEARS OF SERVICE  NO MORE THAN 16 YEARS SERVICE

15 FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT ► THREE TYPES OF PAY:  1. BASIC PAY  2. INCENTIVE PAY ► EXAMPLE: HAZARDOUS DUTY PAY  3. SPECIAL PAY ► EXAMPLE: REENLISTMENT

16 SECURITY CLASSIFICATIONS ► 1. TOP SECRET  Unauthorized exposure could cause exceptionally grave damage to national security ► 2. SECRET  Unauthorized exposure could reasonable be expected to cause serious damage to national security ► 3. CONFIDENTIAL  Unauthorized exposure could reasonably be expected to cause damage to national security

17 THREAT CONDITIONS ► ALPHA  general threat of possible terrorist activity ► BRAVO  increased and more predictable threat of terrorist activity exists ► CHARLIE  when an incident occurs or intelligence is received indicating some form of terrorist action against personnel and facilities is imminent ► DELTA  applies in the immediate area where a terrorist attack has occurred or when intelligence has been received that terrorist action against a specific location or person is likely

18 ELEMENTS OF LEADERSHIP ► MORAL PRINCIPALS  HONESTY, INTEGRITY, & LOYALTY ► PERSONAL EXAMPLE  TRAITS SUCH AS KNOW-HOW, SSINCERITY, AND COURAGE ► ADMINISTRATIVE ABILITY  GOOD MANAGEMENT PRACTICES ► ORGANIZE, MANAGE, & WORK WITH PEOPLE
