3 STUDIO GHIBLI, Inc. is a Japanese animation film studio that is based in Koganei, Tokyo, Japan. It was founded in June 1985 after the success of Nausicaa of the valley of the wind (1984). Like many Japanese anime films, Valley of the wind started off as a Serialized manga written by Miyazaki for publication in Animage as a way of gathering interest in an anime version. The film was produced by Japanese film studio Topcraft. The founders of STUDIO GHIBLI were Legendary director Hayao Miyazaki, along with Isao Takahata, Toshio Suzuki and Yasuyoshi Tokuma. Miyazaki and Takahata had already had long careers in the Japanese and film animation, Miyazaki’s debut film was The Castle of Cagliostro and was distributed by Toho and as of right now have made the majority of Studio Ghibli films. 4 STUDIO GHIBLI stayed afloat by creating various commercials in between building up their incredible feature film career. The first film produced by STUDIO GHIBLI was Castle In The Sky (1986). The next two films made by STUDIO GHIBLI were Grave of the fireflies and My neighbor Totoro, these two films were shown as a double feature in the year 1988., these movies were not commercially successful during their initial release, but have since grown a cult following thanks to Ghibli selling the rights of their films to Disney which lead to a English dubbing opening up a new market what stands out about these 3 movies is that they are all told thru the eyes of children. The themes of these movies involve nature, war and adventure, these 3 films would start off Ghibli’s legacy as a world renowned studio.

5 Studio Ghibli has produced some of the greatest animation movies of all time.
Studio Ghibli’s most famous Director Hayao Mayazaki has been praised by many as one of if not the greatest animation filmmaker in history, Famous film critics like Roger Ebert have praised the depth and artistry of his movies while Pixar animation filmmaker John Lasseter has called him the greatest animation filmmaker of all time and remains close friends with him to this day. Was makes studio Ghibli’s work so important is the universal appeal of the movies, children can go and watch one of Studio Ghibli’s films and be thoroughly entertained, while adults can look much deeper and discover the symbolic meaning behind Ghibli’s movies. Movies like Pom Poko and the Valley of the wind focus on themes of environmentalism, Grave of the Fireflies brings to life the horrors of war from a original perspective, while movies like only Yesterday and My neighbours the Yamadas focus on Family life and coming of age. 6 Studio Ghibli has won many awards over the years
Studio Ghibli has won many awards over the years. Spirited away being their most successful as it won best animated film at the 75th academy awards, the Golden Bear at the 2002 Berlin International Film Festival. As of right now it’s the highest grossing film in Japan, the third being Princess Mononoke. Miyazaki was awarded an honorary Oscar at the In November 2014 after retiring from animation, His final film being The wind rises (2013). Miyazaki wins honorary Oscar Legacy

7 Japanese anime is incredibly popular around the world and doesn’t just appeal to children, many adults are interesting in Japanese anime and this had lead to films such as Akira, Ghost in the Shell and TV shows like attack on titan and death note being produced. One thing that these have in common is that they all started off as Manga comics, this is good as it’s a way to gain popularity in the idea before spending big money on a film or a TV show, shows such as Pokémon started off as a video game franchise for the Nintendo Gameboy. One of the things that stands out about Studio Ghibli is that it’s films are suitable for all audiences to enjoy. Studio Ghibli is such a huge name in the Japanese anime that they can create new stories without having background in other media. Appeal

8 STUDIO GHIBLI has also produced a television show called Sanzoku no Musume Ronya, which aired on October and is ongoing. 2 Live action versions of Grave Of The Fireflies were produced and aired on Japanese TV. STUDIO GHIBLI has also been involves with the making of video games, Magic Pengel and Ni No kuni were 2 games that STUDIO GHIBLI also helped develop.
