4. Assessment Prompts Summarize their experience with drama. Tell what Hansberry’s quotations reveal about her. Provide information about Hansberry’s life and tell how it relates to her quotations.

5. Activating Strategy Give students Handout # 1—“The Play’s the Thing.” Give them 3 minutes to write down as many answers as they can. At the end of minutes, each student is to find a partner and using Numbered Heads, share his/her response. At the end of the 5 minutes, they find another pair and again choose a recorder and reporter. After 5 minutes, each “quartet” shares with the whole class and they discuss their answers. Ask them to indicate whether the term “play” has a positive or negative connotation for them and why.

6. Write your answers to the following questions. 1,How many plays have you seen/read? 2List all the plays you have heard of. 3What literary elements must a piece of writing contain in order to be considered a play? 4.What different types of plays have you heard of ? 7. You have 3 minutes to write your answers to as many questions as you can on “The Play’s the Thing.” At the end of 3 minutes, find a partner and share your answers. One of you needs to record your shared answers and one needs to be the reporter.
