geology: The science of dealing with the physical nature and the history of the earth, including the structure of the crust, the composition of the interior, individual rock types, and the study of ancient life forms from fossil evidence.

All of the rocks on the Earth today were something else billions of years ago. The rock cycle continually recycle our Earths material. Rock cycle: forces deep inside the Earth and on the surface produce a slow cycle that builds, destroys, and changes the rock in the crust.

Igneous rock granite, is pushed up to form a mountain. The wind and water erode the granite into sand. The streams wash the sand into the ocean, where over millions of years it becomes sandstone. Then the pressures and heat build up even greater and it turns into quartzite. But it doesn’t end here. The quartzite is on the ocean floor and is moved back down into the mantle. That turns into igneous again.

TThis process can take a few million years, to a couple of billion years. DDo all of our rocks start out as igneous. WWhy? BBecause all of our crust comes from the mantle. From any possible way all rocks start as igneous, except what? LLimestone, and coal. Which are organic based rock.

The two major factors that effect rock formation and rock metamorphosis, is heat and pressure. Heat can change the crystal structure in a rock and pressure can compress and fuse the rock into something new.

CCould we have one without the other? WWhy BBecause they depend on each other. The convection currents move the continent’s which provide new cooler material to keep the convection currents going. IIf we didn’t have the plates moving then as the continents wore away. There wouldn't be any new material to rebuild them. Volcanoes mostly happen at the plate boundaries. And that is the place where a lot of new rock is made.
