Since most biofuels can be reproduced from agricultural crops, our dependence on oil from other nations for oil can be greatly reduced. Our dependence on many fossil fuels can be reduced. Biofuels are easy to transition to, many vehicles are already suited for biofuels others can be easily changed so you can keep your existing vehicles.

3. Biofuel cons Unfortunately right now, most gas stations do not have biofuels nor ethanol. Another problem is that experts are not sure that the existing crops can produce enough to fulfill the requirements of biofuel. Also creating the biofuel requires more energy then it will create.

4. Ethanol Ethanol is made by fermenting and distilling grains. Grains that are used include corn, wheat, and barley. It is one of the more common biofuels. Bioethanol can be created from grasses and trees although the process for this is more complex. Ethanol is created from our crops and costs about the same as gasoline but reduces the need for oils. Sometimes ethanol is mixed with gasoline to produce another fuel. Since its not completely gas, you are saving some of our nonrenewable resources.

5. Hydrogen, how do we get it? Hydrogen is a clean energy carrier. (like electricity). In the long-term it is expected to reduce dependence on foreign oil and emissions of greenhouse gases. Hydrogen from natural gas = a easily used short- term option, but it is not viewed as a long-term solution because it does not help solve the green house gas problem. Hydrogen from coal= Right now research sponsored by the Office of Fossil Energy is focused on advancing the technologies needed to produce hydrogen from coal-derived synthesis gas. They are also working on building a plant that can preform this operation.

6. Hydrogen continued Researchers are also trying to find away to get hydrogen from renewable resources. If hydrogen is to be used in cars this is what is predicted what the battery will look like and how it will work.

7. Algae Recently it was discovered that algae can produce oil. Algae reproduction can be sped up by adding more CO2 to aid in the process of photosynthesis. This means that the carbon in our atmosphere will be put to good use and we have a renewable energy source that does not produce carbon.
