2 2 The Theory Workers are entitled to the loading; because when they are on holidays they won't get their normal pay which included extra for working on shifts and weekends. (Hagan 1981: p. 280, Commonwealth Bureau of Census and Statistics 1907) In May 1974 a 17.5% annual leave loading was granted to those under the Metal Industry Award in addition to them winning a claim for four weeks annual leave.

3 3 Bill earns $600/week as a metal worker. How much extra does he get as his annual leave loading? Annual Leave Loading = 17.5 100 x $600x 4 weeks = $420 How much does he get as his annual leave? Annual Leave =$600x 4 weeks + $420 = $2 820

4 4 Samantha earns $76 000/annum as an administrator. How much extra does he get as his annual leave loading? Annual Leave Loading = 17.5 100 x $76000÷ 52 weeks = $1023.08 How much does he get as his annual leave? Annual Leave =x 4 weeks + $1023.08 = $6 869.23 x 4 weeks $76000÷ 52 weeks
