South America Several factors that account for South America’s failure to attract tourists :- 1)Largely underdeveloped 2)Far from the main tourist-generating countries of the world 3)Number of countries that are both closer to Canada and the US and less expensive to visit than South America

South America 4)Many perceive the service in South America as poor and many areas as unsafe

Landforms 3 mountain or plateau regions :- 1)Cordillera of the Andes 2)Plateaus of Brazil and Guiana 3)The River Lowlands

The Cordillera of the Andes Greatest mountain chains in the world Stretching from Venezuela to the southernmost regions of the Argentina and Chile 3 active volcano groups - in southern Colombia and Ecuador, middle and southern Peru

Plateaus of Brazil and Guiana Dominated by old, crystalline plateaus that have been elevated and then eroded Irregular, making transportation difficult Still sufficient to modify the tropical climate, making them more attractive to human settlement Southern Brazil, lava flow, more resistant to erosion

River Lowlands Large river systems drain eastward to the Atlantic e.g. Amazon basin in northern Brazil, Parana in south Brazil
