4 Unit 3-2 Your Task A national museum has decided to create a new and exciting exhibit. The exhibit’s theme is “Rises and Falls.” As a leading expert in the area of new empires and new faiths, you have decided to present an idea to the museum’s board of directors. 5 Unit 3-3 Step 1: Organize into groups of three or four and choose a rise or fall. Your group will research the location, culture, and events of one empire or faith, focusing on a rise or fall of an empire or the rise of a faith. Your goal is to describe the setting, characters, and events that led to the rise or fall. You should be focusing on the cause- and-effect relationships that resulted in the rise or fall. 10 Unit 4-1 Background Information The medieval civilizations of China, Africa, Japan, and Europe had various governmental systems. Although all were ruled by emperors or kings, the governments operated differently. For example, scholar-officials helped emperors rule in China, while kings ruled in Africa with the help of close advisers and local officials. Medieval Japan was ruled by emperors backed up by military leaders. In medieval Europe, feudal territories united to form kingdoms. 11 Unit 4-2 Your Task An international environmental group is interested in preserving natural wonders and ancient landmarks in Europe. The group asked you—a famous environmentalist—to study the impact of air pollution and human interchange on a European landmark. Present your findings at an international conference. You will need to find points of comparison between the medieval government you have selected and the current United States government.
