Soils

Rock Cycle Song SEDIMENTARY rock Has been formed in layers Often found near water sources With fossils from decayers Then there’s IGNEOUS rock Here since Earth was born Molten Lava, cooled and hardened That’s how it is formed These two types of rocks Can also be transformed With pressure, heat and chemicals METAMORPHIC they’ll become

Worms As we watch our little worm, Pressing down to make him squirm, Watch the blood as it flows, Count the pulse rate as it goes.

Soil Working with humus, sand and clay, Watching for plants everyday. Which will help the seed to sprout, Chart and graph what the experiment is about. Watching for roots in our tube to grow, With water and sun it’s still so slow. How much water does the soil hold, The humus carries the heavier load. What has happened in our bag of compost, There are lots of things we definitely learned, With dirt and worms as our concern.

Seeds They can’t see their pictures, They can’t read the label, The seeds in a package, So how are they able To know if they’re daisies Or greens for the table?

Seeds A little seed for me to sow… A little earth to make it grow… A little hole, a little pat… A little wish, and that is that. A little sun, a little shower… A little while, And then---a flower!

The Worm When the earth is turned into spring The worms are fat as anything. And birds come flying all around To eat the worms right off the ground. They like worms just as much as I Like bread and milk and apple pie. And once, when I was very young, I put a worm right on my tongue. I didn’t like the taste a bit, And so I didn’t swallow it. But oh, it makes my Mother squirm Because she thinks I ate the worm!

The Earthworm I’m a little earthworm Underground Munching on dead leaves That I’ve found. When the ground all fills up With spring rain, Out! I pop To breath again.

When It Comes to Bugs I like crawlers, I like creepers, Hoppers, jumpers, Fliers, leapers, Walkers, stalkers, Chirpers, peepers… I wonder why my mother thinks That finders can’t be keepers?

Soil is the module we study today With humus, earthworms, sand and clay, Test tubes, humus, clay and sand Many experiments to use our hands, After completion we must conclude, For our garden what we must elude!

My Slender Friend There was a little earthworm Crawling in the dirt I put the little earthworm In the pocket of my shirt, Momma found my earthworm In the pocket of my shirt, She told me that my earthworm’s Home is really in the dirt Then she told me of the value Of my little slender friend All the plants and insects On these decomposers depend.

An Early Worm Gets Out Of Bed An early worm gets out of bed An murmured, “I feel mean! I’ll put my darkest glasses on, I’ll paint myself bright green.” “I’ll dress up in my wildest wig, The one with purple bangs, I’ll also wear a pair of horns And artificial fangs.” That early worm poked up its head, Which looked a perfect fright, And early bird observed that worm And lost its appetite. By Jack Prelutsky

Earthworm Did you ever see an earthworm, An earthworm, an earthworm, Did you ever see an earthworm, Move this way and that? Move this way and that way, Move this way and that, Did you ever see an earthworm, Move this way and that.

Worms These squiggly, wiggly worm Help flowers grow strong shoots They loosen up the soil So plants can spread their roots. Then rain can trickle through With things plants drink and eat Thanks to those wiggly worms My plants have happy feet
