1 Reverse Transfer Debbie Schatz Assistant Director of Admissions, Transfer and Articulation Programs October 16, 2012

2 What is Reverse Transfer? HB 1042 The coordinating board shall develop a policy to foster reverse transfer for any student who has accumulated enough hours in combination with at least one public higher education institution in Missouri that offers an associate degree and one public four-year higher education institution in prescribed courses sufficient to meet the public higher education institution’s requirements to be awarded an associate degree. Process to facilitate completion of associate’s degrees. One 2-year institution. One 4-year institution. Combination of coursework satisfying associate’s degree requirements.

3 Why Reverse Transfer? 62 average transfer credits (Fall 2012) 135 students from Missouri community colleges with 49+ transfer credits. (Fall 2012)

4 S&T/ECC Reverse Transfer Process Student attends ECC as usual. Student applies for transfer admission to S&T as usual. S&T Transfer Admissions identifies applicants with 49+ credits from ECC and creates a Peoplesoft checklist. At Transfer Advising Day, eligible students complete a Reverse Transfer Graduation Application and Transcript Release Form. At the end of each semester a list is generated of transfer students with no AA/AS, 49+ transfer credits, and 90+ total credits.

5 S&T/ECC Reverse Transfer Process continued… If release form is on file, S&T transcript will be sent to ECC. If release form is not on file, Transfer Admissions will follow up with students. ECC will award AA/AS if student meets graduation requirements. ECC will send transcript to S&T to verify completion of the degree, which will be noted on the Peoplesoft checklist and on the student record.

6 Reverse Transfer Graduation Application and Transcript Release Form Authorize ECC and S&T to release transcripts. Authorize ECC to award degree. Application fee waiver policy. Transcript fee waiver policy. Authorize S&T to release to ECC their names on a list of reverse-transfer-tracked students to allow for the establishment of the ECC graduation checklist and follow up to facilitate the process.

7 Other Notes ECC will include statement about reverse transfer on the ECC application for admission authorizing the awarding of degree. Time limit for awarding of associate’s after transfer—1 year?

8 Next Steps Design reverse transfer form. Detail and refine process. Build reverse transfer checklist on Peoplesoft. Create reverse transfer articulation agreement. Signing ceremony and press releases. Pilot program with current S&T students. Promote to future students. Expand to all Missouri community colleges.
