1 Middle School Athletics SCPA 2015-2016

2 Sports Being offered… o Fall: o Boys and Girls Soccer: Mr. Jalaff, Mrs. Falleur o September-October o Boys and Girls Cross Country: Sippio, Manzer, Rohde o September-October o Meet days: September 16, 23, 30 Championship October 7th o Winter: o Boys and Girls Volleyball: o November-December o Spring o Co-ed flag football: February-March o Boys and girls track and field: end of March-beginning of May o Girls Softball: end of April-June

3 · B/G CROSS COUNTRY: Cross Country is a 2 mile course (or as close as the host school can fit) with the schools top 5 determining the points for the team. If a school does not have 5 runners they can only place as individuals, not a team score, girls run first then boys. · Regular season meets will take place at Middle Schools with the championship meet taking place at a county high school. · OCMSAC FINALS – o Maximum time limit to qualify for the finals is 22 minutes. Schedule: September 16, 23, 30 meets October 7 championship meet at OHS @5:30

4 Uniforms Shorts can be any color For the first meet on Sept 16, we are asking all participants to wear their blue warrior shirt For the meets following, we are having cross country “uniform” shirts made for the team.

5 B/G Track and Field The calendar of practice times and meet times and places will be available closer to the season start in March

6 Intramural Team sports Practices and scrimmages will take place at SCPA

7 Middle School Eligibility SCPA ELIGIBILITY In order for athletic eligibility in the OCMSAC to take place the following must be met. ITEM 1: Student Grade will be a cumulative 2.0 / C average to gain eligibility for the entire quarter. ITEM 2 * One (1) “F” and or three (3) or more “D’s” will not be allowed on the report card, even if a C average is attained. This will cause the student athlete to be ineligible for the entire quarter.

8 ITEM 3: * A student-athlete that has two (2) “D’s” on their report card will be placed on probation until progress reports come out. Ineligibility will be take place immediately if the student remains to have two (2) or more “D’s” on their report in any classes at progress report card time. Eligibility is based on quarter grades to determine eligibility for the next quarter. Quarter 1 will determine Quarter 2 and so on throughout the entire academic school year. PLEASE NOTE: Quarter 4 will determine eligibility for Quarter 1 of the next school year for next years 7th and 8th graders. * All incoming 6th graders are eligible Quarter 1. OTHER: a- He/ She must be regularly promoted from the previous grade in the immediate preceding year; b- He/she must be in regular attendance; c- He/She must be a Middle School student (Grades 6-8) has 1-year limit of eligibility in each grade. d- May participate until the age of 15 years 9 months. (Ineligibility begins the day of 15 years 9 months.

9 Consent Packet Any middle school student participating in athletics must have a current sports physical on file. The sports physical is good for 365 days from date of exam. All paperwork must be signed and returned before the student may begin practicing. Consent Packet will be available on the school’s website by the end of the day tomorrow. Any updated information (schedules and calendars) will be communicated through the athletics tab of the website.

10 Important dates Refer to calendar It will be up on the website tomorrow**** There will also be an original copy kept in the front office For middle school meets that take place at a high school, there will be an entrance fee in to the meet of $3. This is for both cross country and track and field meets.

11 Heat Illness Prevention Fluids: make sure to bring water and water bottles to practice Light clothing Listen to your body Warning signs: ◦Upset stomach ◦Headache ◦Dizziness

14 Elementary Cross Country K-5: students will run in age bracket 1 mile course at most host schools Own transportation Schedule: Wed and Saturday meets October 10, 14, 21, 31, November 14 Championship on December 12 at St. Cloud High School Practices? Age requirement: 13 years old
