4 Math Bridges In Mathematics Philosophy Behind Bridges Manipulative-based program developed by primary teachers that emphasizes all area of mathematics utilizing the following strategies: Visual thinking-Students use a variety of manipulatives to actually see and solve problems. Sketches and drawings-Students learn how to problem solve answers by making their own pictures. Various Algorithms- more than one way to solve a problem. *Bridges is a spiraled program. This means nearly every concept that is taught returns a second, third and even fourth time throughout the school year so every child has a built in review for concrete learning to show progress. *School-wide program Conceptualthinking Algorithms Bridges

9 Social Studies Local Community Exploration Unit 1: What is a community? Unit 2: Where is my community & what is it like? Unit 3: How do citizens live together in a community? Unit 4: How do people work together in a community? Unit 5: How do communities change? Unit 6: How can a citizen affect a community? –Core Democratic Values
