Our challenge is to “reduce the impact of earthquakes and tsunamis on society through Research, Engineering, Science, and Education...” Dr. Barbara Cooper, NEES EOT Coordinator How? Through active communications and collaborative partnerships, NEES will influence research, engineering, and policy. Through broad and effective education and outreach, NEES will help create the research and engineering leaders of tomorrow.

Dr. Barbara Cooper, NEES EOT Coordinator  Partnerships, communication, and collaboration are keys  NEEShub will allow for improved collaboration and sharing of data, tools, training, and ideas.

Dr. Barbara Cooper, NEES EOT Coordinator  NEEShub provides an advanced Cyberinfrastructure through which  more collaborative research can be enabled  innovations can be made more readily available to practitioners, and  learning materials are made available to educators and students

Think Network-wide Impact!  Our Challenge in EOT is -–  To reach the broadest possible audience –  To inform them about earthquake engineering advancements  Ultimately, to save lives Tours, demonstrations, and summer camps can only reach a fraction of the people we need to reach. Dr. Barbara Cooper, NEES EOT Coordinator

NEES has five strategic aims– all involve some aspect of EOT  Build a broad and engaged NEES community  Enable unique and innovative research  Promote knowledge transfer from researcher to community  Develop an excellent workforce through communication, education and training  Raise public awareness of NEES and the life-saving research taking place Dr. Barbara Cooper, NEES EOT Coordinator

Our mandate for EOT:  Build a broad and engaged NEES community  Encourage network-wide collaborations  Enable broad use of NEES facilities by the research community  Use the capabilities of NEEShub and NEESAcademy to foster these collaborations  Enable unique and innovative research  Utilize NEEShub to broaden and diversify research innovations and contributions  Provide the media with lots of news releases and direct marketing efforts to new user communities Dr. Barbara Cooper, NEES EOT Coordinator

Our mandate for EOT:  Promote knowledge transfer from researcher to community  Create news releases – and copy them to NEEScomm  Publish papers – and post them on NEEShub  Develop of an excellent workforce through communication, education, and training  Share your educational innovations through NEEShub  Write proposals for supplemental funding through the REU program, and other educational funding opportunities  Share your ideas through NEESAcademy Dr. Barbara Cooper, NEES EOT Coordinator

Our mandate for EOT:  Raise public awareness of NEES and the life-saving research taking place  Toot your own horn!  Cultivate a relationship with the press  Take advantage of opportunities to tell the general public who and what NEES is!  Make ‘NEES’ as common a term as ‘NFL’ or ‘NASA’  Make people aware of the uniqueness, importance and value of NEES Dr. Barbara Cooper, NEES EOT Coordinator
