Ken Wyllie, CERN Upgrade infrastructure, 19-20 Feb 2015 3 Copper cabling & connectors I Existing cable database: re-use very useful features: naming convention, barcodes Re-cycle existing cables Remove cables…..? eg Velo Cu signals All between detector & D2/D3/B1 (none to surface) Common cable types Maraton 380VDC + monitoring/control CANbus for ELMBs Sub-detector specific eg multiwire HV for silicon detector bias coax for PMT signals

Ken Wyllie, CERN Upgrade infrastructure, 19-20 Feb 2015 4 Copper cabling & connectors II New cables: Choose cables/connectors available through CERN stores Easy purchasing & delivery (careful with delivery times) Unused length can be returned Most meet safety regulations (IS-23) Must be carefully specified & documented in EDMS Long-distance cables: purchasing & installation by infrastructure group (sub-detector budget codes!) Short-distance cables: sub-detector responsibility (help from infra-group)

Ken Wyllie, CERN Upgrade infrastructure, 19-20 Feb 2015 5 Example of cable+connector specification

Ken Wyllie, CERN Upgrade infrastructure, 19-20 Feb 2015 6 Power supplies Re-cycle existing units Assume maintenance contract extended after 2018 Buying new units: Stay with the usual suppliers easy to integrate, common software support, organized maintenance, shared experience, database Buy units that are commonly used (eg Wiener 0M22.0003) Delivery times can be long my last order took 5 months

Ken Wyllie, CERN Upgrade infrastructure, 19-20 Feb 2015 7 Power supply sharing - summary https://indico.cern.ch/event/354046/ See summary slides for proposal for sharing power supplies IT + TT + OT + PS/SPD => TT + SciFi + Calo Optimum distribution of existing power supplies BUT most sub-detectors have to purchase more units Excellent database for orders, repairs, prices etc etc

Laurent Roy, CERN Upgrade infrastructure, 19-20 Feb 2015 9 Electrical installations -main additional power need (UX or Surface)?  to be foreseen well in advance with EN/EL (previous slides from EL) -Experiment equipment powered by same network of LHC (EXD)  can your systems live with power cuts? - glitches (µs ; often) - micro cut (ms-s ; few/year) rk: with LHC stop - AUG tests (1day/year) - switchboards, transformers maintenance (2-5days/2 years) -Possibility to power systems with ‘secure’ powering (schema next slide)  quantity of power limited : must be justified -Possibility to install ‘repowering’ possibilities  ex: for failure in the distribution, during AUG, maintenance

Laurent Roy, CERN 14 -Cooling: vertical air flow mixed water exchangers - Safety aspect (DSS): Thermo switch: 40 ˚C, Smoke detection, CO2 automatic triggering.  Mechanical adaptation to be done for new equipment (plates for air, rails…) Racks ‘standard’ for electronics

Laurent Roy, CERN Upgrade infrastructure, 19-20 Feb 2015 15 Racks preparation Rack modification need for your equipment ?  Propose to use an Excel template to modify (not Rackwizard)  Manpower for mechanical work to defined

Laurent Roy, CERN Upgrade infrastructure, 19-20 Feb 2015 17 Optical fibres Long distance status: 3 x 144 fibers cables installed between UX-Bunker and SG8  Learn a lot with installation (blowing+splicing and pre-connectorized solution) document with all details in preparation (EN/EL)  Tests with AMC40 on going (Rainer)  Electronic setup in preparation for long duration tests in UX85 (Ken) Patch cord type, splitting cassette, PCIe40 quantities…  Sub-detectors should converge to final designs now Each group produce schemes for next ‘Electronic meeting’ in April ? Tender for new ‘optical Cern contract’ (EN/EL) on going  New companies (supplier and installation) ? new conditions ~ mid 2015
