2 Outlines Remote Sensing System An ideal Remote Sensing System
The Energy Source The Atmosphere The Energy-Matter Interaction at the Earth’s Surface The Sensor The data processing and supply system The multiple data users An ideal Remote Sensing System

3 Remote Sensing & Satellite Image Processing

4 The Energy Source Active Remote Sensing => Own source of energy
Passive Remote Sensing => Sun Energy Solar energy level varies w.r.t time and location. For active remote sensing => Control on illumination. Sun energy is non-uniform w.r.t wavelength.

5 The Atmosphere The atmosphere normally compounds the problems introduced by energy source variations. Modify the strength and spectral distribution received by the sensor. Define the wavelength ranges in which we can do remote sensing.

6 Energy-Matter Interaction at Earth Surface
Remote Sensing would be simple if every material reflected or emitted energy in a unique, known way.

7 The Sensor No single sensor is sensitive to all wavelength.
Ideal supersensor How small an object on the earth can be seen. Spatial Resolution All real sensors have fixed limits of spectral sensitivity.
