3 USA - Climate Large size and geographic variety many types of climate Temperatures - vary greatly Extreme temperatures — -62° C. in Alaska and 57° C in California. Annual rainfall - also very varied Annual rainfall records - 11,680 mm in Hawaii, <50 mm in the deserts of the Southwest The greatest seasonal change in temperature - the interior of the country. Hot summers, cool winters. Coastal areas - relatively little change throughout the year.( the influence of offshore ocean currents).

6 Humid continental climate (Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas, and Oklahoma eastward to the Atlantic Ocean) 2 phases of the climate The northern phase occurs in the northernmost states from the Dakotas to Maine Summers short and cool; winters long, snowy, and severely cold.
