3 The Northeast Many of the Northeastern states are on the coast. Lighthouses are important to warn ships that land is near.

4 The Northeast Plymouth, Massachusetts is where the Mayflower landed. The Pilgrims settled here.

5 The Northeast Boston, Massachusetts is where the Revolutionary War began. There are many historic buildings in Boston.

6 The Northeast Washington DC, Our country’s capital.

7 The Northeast New York City is one of the biggest and busiest cities in the world!

9 The Southeast The Mississippi River is a very important river. Before steamships, riverboats used to travel the river.

10 The Southeast The Appalachian Mountains go through the Southeastern US. Many people work mining coal in the mountains.

11 The Southeast NASA headquarters are in Florida. That means when a space ship goes up, it launches in Florida.

12 The Southeast Last year, Hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana and many other states in the Southeast. This is one of the only regions of the US that gets hurricanes.

14 The Midwest Henry Ford was from Michigan. He started all his car factories in Michigan and because of this most of the cars in the US were made in Michigan. Lots of people there work on cars.

15 The Midwest Chicago is one of the biggest cities in the Midwest. This is the home of Wrigley Field.

16 The Midwest There are many, many farmers in the Midwest. Lots of the fruits and vegetables you eat come from the Midwest.

18 The Northwest The Rocky Mountains go through the Northwest. There is lots of mining for silver.

19 The Northwest California, Washington, and Oregon touch the Pacific Ocean.

20 The Northwest Some states do a lot of farming. Tons of potatoes come from Idaho.

21 The Northwest The Winter Olympics were in Utah in 2002.

23 The Southwest Much of the Southwest is desert. There are not many trees. Just rocks. In Arizona there is a HUGE hole called the Grand Canyon. It is over 1 mile deep!

24 The Southwest Many Native Americans live in the Southwest. There are several reservations. These are places where Native Americans live and keep their own traditions.

25 The Southwest Texas and Arizona border Mexico. Many people in the Southwest speak Spanish.
