2 Colorado has over 470 institutions educating approximately 375,000 students: -28 public institutions -3 area technical schools -over 100 private institutions -over 330 private occupational schools

3 Colorado’s Public institutions  Include 14 four-year institutions  13 community colleges  2 local district colleges  3 area technical colleges Which combined  Support over 97,500 jobs in the State  Contribute $4.25 billion in wages and salaries and almost $387 million in state and local taxes to the Colorado economy annually

4 Our population is growing, aging and becoming more diverse The jobs available, and skills needed to fill them are shifting We are a state that has depended on in-migration to meet occupational demands By 2035, 45% of Colorado’s labor force will shift due to a combination of retirements and new demands. By 2018, it is projected that nearly 70% of jobs will require some form of postsecondary education- Colorado will be 5 th in the nation in postsecondary need intensity

5 Increases personal income and economic strength Increases workforce participation, health, productivity and dollars to the state Increases volunteerism, civic and artistic involvement Decreases rates of incarceration, unemployment, participation in Medicaid and other social service programs Improves job security and increased earning potential
