2 Warm-Up September 3, 2015 Using the image, write 4 sentences using the formulas below: 1. IC 2. IC, cc IC. 3. SC, IC. 4. IC, SC.

3 Example Sentences The chair is an African baby seat. Someone in this house must love gum. Compound: Louis will never sit in that chair, and Veronica never will use it again. Complex: After class, the teacher questioned all the students about the desk. 2 nd – (complex) You will have backaches if you sit in that chair.

4 2 nd period Dad said that desk has gum hanging from it. IC=simple sentence #2. Compound----There is gum under the desk, and it looks very disgusting. (There is gum under the desk; it looks very disgusting.) 3. Complex sentence--- When someone got gum on their leg, he/she had to change his/her pants. 4. 2 nd complex sentence- -- He ate chips at the store until he was full.

5 3 rd Period I sat in the dirty desk. (IC=Simple) Compound: The desk looked old, and it sat next to a window. I jumped over the desk, and I hurt myself. SC,IC (Complex) Although you can’t get up in the middle of class, don’t put your gum under the desk. Although the desk was covered in gum, the kids still played outside.

6 6 th Period IC=Independent Clause/=Simple Sentence Structure I walked into the classroom and saw it. (Tricky) There is a chair near the window. IC,cc IC (Compound structure) There are wooden floors in the room,but also I see a huge window.

7 SC, IC (Complex) Because of the gum, no one wants to sit there. IC, SC (Complex Structure) I went to the office although the students told me not to talk about the desk. I went to the office since there was gum on the desk.

8 IC, SC (Complex) The desk looked very old because it was abandoned. The students disobeyed the teacher, so they have to clean all the desks.
