2. What is CICO? CICO= “Check In/Check Out” The CICO program is a school-wide, check-in, check-out prevention program for students who are starting to engage in problem behaviors. It is a Tier 2 intervention.

3. Goal The goal of the CICO is to prevent students who are acting out from escalation and provide them with more frequent feedback on their behavior to prevent future problem behavior.

4. Why CICO? ●Quicker and easier way to support kids ●5-10% of students get high frequency scheduled positive contact with adults ●Students in the past who would have gotten nothing now get a positive boost of support

6. Targeted Groups ●Children with low-level problem behavior (Some BIST movements) ●As part of a more complex or individualized plan for a youth (Layering) ●Children who are internalizers (Sits alone at lunch, etc)

7. Expected Outcomes ●Quick access to simple intervention ●Gather data across day ●Increase access and support from staff ●Generalize and maintain new skill across settings ●Increase attendance, work completion, instructional time ●Decrease problem events

8. Dawes Check In/Check Out

9. Criteria ●Students have 3 or more movements in a month and Design Team determines student will begin CICO ●Core Team referral

10. Starting CICO ●Students enter the building at the 7:53 bell and check in with their grade level facilitator. o 6th-Alicia Burmood (131) o 7th-Carrie Bode (Media Center) o 8th- Rick Mertens (SEM desk-Commons Area) ●Students turn in Dawes Card (DC) from previous day with a parent signature to the facilitator ●Students get Dawes Card from facilitator ●Tardy to school students: Will check in with Rick Mertens ● Absent Students: Jessica will enter absences on the individual students Google Doc tracking sheet form.

13. Classroom Check In ●Students give Dawes Card to teachers before class begins. ●Teacher gives Dawes Card back to student at the end of class. ●Teachers provide students with supportive, positive, feedback. o Similar to a goal sheet, except all DC’s are the same

14. Checking Out ●Students report to grade level facilitator after the 2:58 bell. ●Facilitator enters daily scores. ●Facilitator briefly processes day with student. ●Student takes home the Dawes Card to be signed by the parent and returned the following day.

15. When Students Don’t Check Out ●Remind student and review the process. ●After two/week- facilitator calls parent. ●After three/week- administrator calls parent. ●6th- Russ ●7th- Angie ●8th- Jodi

16. Role of the Student (Dawes Card) ●Understand the Check In/Check Out process ●Pick up sheet from facilitator in the morning ●Give to teacher each period ●Turn in to facilitator at end of day ●Take the Dawes Card home ●Bring card back

17. Role of the Classroom Teacher (Dawes Card) ●Greet and take sheet from student at beginning of period ●Provide supportive, encouraging, and positive feedback ●Review expectations and process with student. ●Complete form at end of period

18. Role of the Facilitator (Dawes Card) ●Receive student’s name and is responsible for touching base with the student within 48 hours to start the process ●Create a Google Doc folder for students to track data ●Greet and give student Dawes Card at the beginning of day ●Provide supportive, encouraging, and positive feedback ●Enter data at the end of the day, check out with student, send report home ●Allow bus riders to go first

19. Role of the Design Team ●Refer student to facilitator ●Monitor effectiveness-determine if students work their way off CICO or to a more intensive plan

20. Role of Parents/Home To sign the Dawes Card and send it back to school with their child to give to the facilitator

21. Exit Ticket How is CICO different from a Goal Sheet? Can a student be on a Goal Sheet and CICO? Can a student be in Team Focus and CICO?
