3 RSS: Summary of Services Communicate funding opportunities Contribute to the development of more competitive proposals – provide advice up front Review proposals and agreements to ensure alignment with University of Guelph policy, collective agreements, protection of faculty and student rights, mitigate risk Bring your attention to key contractual requirements and help you understand your obligations Host workshops in partnership with key sponsors

4 Grant vs. Contract vs.? Our office processes a number of agreements including grants, contracts, service agreements, MOU’s, data sharing, etc. Just because its called a grant doesn’t mean it is Call to ask up front and we will direct you to the right person to help We don’t process MTA’s, NDA’s, license agreements (Catalyst Centre) or educational agreements (VPA) Difference between a grant and a contract

7 #1 – Know the Rules! University policies and procedures Collective agreements Employment agreements College level requirements/processes Budgetary requirements Are you eligible to apply for and hold research funds?

8 #2 – Find Research Funding Know what resources are available locally Watch for e-mail INSIDER Check ORS web site or COS PivotORS web sitePivot Talk to your peers Attend information sessions Consider type of research funding: – Grant – Contract – Service contract Catalyst Centre and industry liaison

9 #3 – Prepare your Proposal READ the application guidelines and follow them! Ask for clarification up front Match the priorities and requirements of the sponsor or program If contract or service agreement, or major funding proposal (multiple universities, partners) touch base with us up front Consider peer review of 1 st draft and college level supports Check ORS minimum processing times

10 #4 – Prepare your Budget Review the sponsor or program’s eligible costs! Be realistic and don’t overinflate Consider time commitments Include indirect costsindirect costs Think outside the box (e.g. Project Manager?)

11 #5 – Engage your CRM & ADR (early) Help with preparing applications (as applicable) When you can’t meet the posted minimum processing timesminimum processing times When you would like to request reduced indirect costs Approval at college level is required first ORS requires supporting documentation from ADRs in these cases!
