Adding NLN Resources to your Course

Where to Find the Resources The NLN Resources have already been uploaded onto the system you will find them in the area nln$ on ma219adb with a separate folder for each subject NB: You may need to map the network drive to access this area

You will find that the file names which these resources are stored under do not indicate what the resource actually is. To find out which resource is which use the NLN Resources catalogues which are part of this Introduction to Learnwise course. It is a good idea to view this catalogue first and make a note of the file names of the resources you wish to add so that when you go on to upload them you will know which files are the ones that you want to add

There are 3 ways in which you can add NLN Resources 1. As a zip folder in a similar way to how you would upload a single course file 2.As a hyperlink in a word document 3.If you have admin rights you can add the resource as a separate pre packaged course

Adding NLN resources to the course files area as a zip folder This is done in a similar way to adding a single file. You will need to select content in the tutor screen and then go to files (as you would when adding a single document)

The Resources are firstly uploaded into the files area before they can be added to the structure However, you will need to select to add a folder rather than a single file

You will need to locate the resource on the system Select browse to do this You also have the option of replacing your entire course with the Zip folder NB:If you choose to replace course with the folder this will delete any materials which you have already uploaded

After selecting browse you will see this box The resources are located in Nln$ on ma219adb Open the folder which contains Zip files

Open the file which is relevant to your course e.g. Business Select the zip file which you would like to add by clicking on open. You will then need to select submit and the folder will be uploaded to the files area

To find out which resource is which use the resource catalogues provided on this Introduction to Learnwise course

You can now add the resource to your course structure Select the structure option Select add item next to the relevant chapter

You will then need to locate the item in the files screen in the same way you would when uploading a single file This is the zip folder you will need to click on the arrow next to it to view the contents

You will then see a long list of documents which the zip folder contains Scroll down the list until you find the index document. You will need to upload this document to your structure by selecting add. NB. Uploading the index will allow the whole resource to be uploaded you do not need to upload each item

Add a title for the resource and submit it The NLN Resource will now be added to your course, if you would like to view it you will need to access your course through the PIM

Now try adding an NLN Resource to your course or the trial course in this way Return to contents

Adding the Resources as Hyperlinks in a Word Document Another way of adding NLN resources to your course is to provide hyperlinks to them as part of another document

Highlight the phrase which you would like to attach the hyperlink to Select Hyperlink on the insert menu Create your WORD DOCUMNET

Select browse for file The following box will appear

You will find the resources in NLN$ ON Ma219adb Open the folder of unzipped items

After selecting the folder which is relevant to your course you will see a list of resources Select the resource you would like to hyperlink to and click on OK to open the folder

You will then see a list of items which the folder contains Select the index page to hyperlink to and click on OK this will add a hyperlink to the resource

Select OK again here and the link will be added

This document can then be uploaded into your course files area and then added to your course structure as a single file

Now try adding a hyperlink to an NLN Resource in a word document Return to contents

Importing an NLN Resource as a separate pre-packaged course NB. You will need administrative rights to allow you to do this

You will need to be in the Admin Screen Select Admin here

You will then see this screen You need to select the general tab

You will then see this screen Select the import/export option

You will then be given a list of options You need to select Import Materials

Now you will need to browse the system for the resource After selecting Browse this box will appear You will find the NLN resources located in NLN$ on Ma219adb Open the Zip Files folder

Select the zip file that you would like to upload and click on open to upload the folder Open the folder relevant to your course e.g. Business Studies

Once you have selected to submit the file it will be uploaded onto Learnwise as a course. This may take some time, be patient

When the upload is complete you will see this screen, the NLN Resource has now been added as a Learnwise course

Return to the PIM, the course should appear in the course catalogue, to view it you will need to enrol on it and then access it on the My Courses list

You can add additional information such as your own lecture notes and assessment tasks in the same way you would a normal course, via the content option in the tutor screen This is the NLN resource, you can add your own chapters and items to the course by selecting add item. NB: The items you wish to add must be firstly uploaded into the files area before you can add them to the structure

You can change the name of the resource so that it is more recognisable to students who are on that course To do this you will need to select the courses tab in the admin screen and then select view courses. Find the resource on the list and select the edit button next to it It is particularly useful to do this if you plan on uploading additional material such as lecture notes and using the resource as part of your course

You will then be able to change the name of the resource to your course name and also edit the description to suit your course Return to contents
