6. Summary A woman named Janie tells the story of her life. At the age of 16 her grandmother wants her to get married to a man named Logan Killicks. They get married, but Janie isn’t in love. When Logan goes to see a man about a mule Janie meets a man name Joe Starks. The next day Janie goes off to marry Joe, and move to Eatonville. Joe becomes mayor of Eatonville, but Janie’s marriage goes downhill because she isn’t able to use her voice. After Joe dies, from kidney failure, Janie meets a man named Tea Cake. She falls in love with him, and they get married. This is the marriage she always wanted. During a hurricane Tea Cake gets bit by a rabid dog. He gets sick and Janie is forced to shoot him. She is found innocent because the incident was found accidental and justifiable. Janie gives him a nice funeral and buries him in Palm Beach. She goes home. At the end she finishes up her story, goes upstairs to bed, and still fills Tea Cakes presence. She says her life has been fulfilled because she has been to the horizon and back.
