2 The Problem 60% of community college students who take the placement exam need at least one remedial course Lack of persistence: – Current sequence is 3-5 courses – More students are lost because they don’t enroll in the next course than from failure of any single course Topics lack relevance to academic goals and real world Only one available pathway for students, regardless of major 2
