3 History of Scientology Scientology was developed by L Ron Hubbard Created to be a self-help group Auditing was used as a way to recognize the past events Originally wasn’t meant to become a religion Hubbard wrote a book on Dianetics and was best seller in New York Times for roughly 6 months around 1949

4 History of Scientology instructions from the book and applied the method to each other, becoming practitioners themselves. Hubbard started as the leader of this group. Hubbard then founded the Hubbard Dianetic Research Foundation in Elizabeth, New Jersey He trained his first Dianetics counselors or auditors there.

6 An article in Newsweek stated that "the dianetics concept is unscientific and unworthy of discussion or review". This led the foundation into bankruptcy in 1951 because they were teaching medicine without a licence. Thetan, a major factor for turning dianetics into a religion. In 1952, Hubbard built on the existing framework set forth in Dianetics, and published a new set of teachings as Scientology, a religious philosophy In December 1953, Hubbard incorporated three churches

8 Beliefs Auditing Scientologists believed that increased spiritual awareness and physical benefits are accomplished through counselling sessions referred to as auditing.

9 Beliefs The Bridge to Total Freedom Spiritual development is enhanced by studying scientology material. There are stages, each one accomplished is moving across the “Bridge” Two parts of this, training and processing. All this will help develop the person spiritually

10 Beliefs Emotions and The Mind The reactive mind stores mental images which are not readily available to the conscious mind, these are referred to as engrams. Engrams are hard to regain from the memory. This is believed to take you away from your true identity. Auditing cures this. A tone scale is used, Scientologists maintain that knowing a person's place on the scale makes it easier to predict their actions and assists in bettering their condition.

12 Practices of Scientology Auditing also know as counselling, this is used to keep the person pure and high on the Tone Scale. The main goal of auditing is to better the person on a personal level. Also it helps an individual look at his own existence and improves his ability to confront what he is and where he is.

13 Ceremonies ceremonies for events such as weddings, child naming, and funerals are observed. Friday services are held to commemorate the completion of a person's religious services during the prior week.

14 Location Originally Scientology started out in New Jersey. It is now very popular in California. A lot of big stars are religious with Scientology. The religion is more than just these two places, it is spread out.

19 Leader David Miscavige (April 30, 1960) is the leader of the Church of Scientology and its many affiliated organizations, having assumed that role shortly after the death of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard in 1986. His formal title is Chairman of the Board of Religious Technology Center.
