THE TIME PERIOD OF 1935 By: James Rosenberry

10 PIECES OF DIRECT TEXT EVIDENCE 1.Pg.51 paragraph 7 in the book Al Capone Does My Shirts Moose says “Not a double play combination like the famous Tinker to Evers to Chance.” These are old baseball players that played back in 1912 that most people don’t know today, but Moose knows because it was only a few years ago. 2.Pg.78 in the last paragraph Piper responds to the question, “How much for socks?” and she responds, “Two cents.” Two cents was worth more back then. 3. Pg.145 paragraph 5 Moose looks at the golden gate bridge construction to see their slow work on it. “I look to see how they’re doing on the Golden Gate Bridge today. Progress is slow.” The golden gate bridge construction was still going on when Alcatraz was open

DIRECT TEXT EVIDENCE CONTINUED 4.On Pg. 15 paragraph 3 Theresa says, “Oh we have everyone who is bad. Except for Bonnie and Clyde on account that their being dead.” They were big gangsters back in 1935. 5.On Pg. 14 paragraphs 4 when Piper starts telling Moose about Al Capone when she says, “Alphonse Capone AKA: Scarface”, and AL Capone was the biggest mob boss in 1935 and he was nicknamed Scarface when got a scar after a fight

DIRECT TEXT EVIDENCE CONTINUED 6. On Pg. 14 paragraph 6 Piper starts telling Moose about Al Capone when she says, “Business: Bootlegging” He sold illegal merchandise. 7. On Pg. 14 paragraph 6 Piper starts telling Moose about Al Capone when she says, “Favorite weapon: Thompson machine gun.” He killed many people with that gun. 8. On Pg. 15 paragraph 7 Theresa says, “There’s Machine Gun Kelly” He's a famous kidnapper.

DIRECT TEXT EVIDENCE CONTINUED 9. On Pg. 15 paragraph 7 Theresa says, “, and Roy Gardner” He’s a world famous criminal escape artist. 10. On Pg. 32 paragraph 6 when Moose asks his dad what bracelets are, “Bracelets?” and his dad says, “Handcuffs” That is old slang for handcuffs.

ACCURACY OF THE AUTHOR 1. On number one the author is very accurate because the Tinker to Evers to Chance play was very well known. On number two he was also correct because back then two cents were worth more. On number three he was also accurate because when you look at the pictures it shows them far from done. On number four he was right because Bonnie and Clyde are old gangsters. Al Capone was a real mob gangster. The author was accurate for the rest of these
