1 About Moscow

2 FOR TEACHERS The aims of the presentation are: -to give some information to students about several places of interest in Moscow; - to arouse students’ interest in history of their native land; - to get students feel identity and patriotism towards their Motherland.

3 FOR STUDENTS: this presentation will help you to make an advert of your native city for a foreign tourist. You can: tell about Moscow in general describing some places of interest or present one sight in detail. So look through the presentation, choose necessary information for your project, find and add some more interesting facts. Note: pay attention to the correct pronunciation of the names of the places of interest which you will choose. Consult your dictionary if you need.

4 The Moscow Metro The first line of the Moscow Metro was opened on May 15th, 1935. There were only 13 stations. A lot of stations are real works of art. Today the Metro is the fastest and most popular means of transport in our city.

5 The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour was built near the Pushkin Museum between 1995 and 1997. It is a gigantic building with huge onion domes. You can see them from Manege Square. There is a big platform 40m above the ground, with a beautiful view of the Kremlin.

6 the Moscow Circus A bronze cabriolet is parked in front of the Moscow Circus on Tsvetnoy Boulevard; a man in a funny hat is standing beside it. This is a monument to Yury Nikulin, a famous Russian clown, actor and director of the circus. It was founded in 1880. You can enjoy watching performances with tigers, lions, horses and other animals.

7 Moscow Zoo Moscow Zoo is the best place to spend a family weekend: children and parents (or grandparents) are always happy to see bears, camels, elephants, wolves etc. There are two sections here: the Old and the New ones connected with the bridge. There is also the Bird House, Night World and others.

8 Arbat Street Arbat Street is the most popular place for walking. There are a lot of cafes, restaurants, souvenir and art shops here. You can see nesting dolls (matreshkie), pictures and clothes. A lot of artists will offer to paint your portrait in any style you like.

9 the Kuzminki Estate Welcome to the Kuzminki Estate! The history of the estate began in 1702, when Peter the Great presented this land to Sergey Stroganov. Today Kuzminky Park is favourite place for Muscovites to walk around the paths, to sit under old trees, to go boating, to ride a horse or a bike. You can enjoy watching a wonderful flower festival every autumn.
