2 HISTORY  Jamaica was inhabited by Arawak Indians  These peaceful, seafaring people greeted Columbus when he first visited the island in 1494.  It remained under Spanish rule until 1655.

3 HISTORY CONTINUED.  the British were consistently harassed by the Maroons.  the British captured Jamaica from the Spanish.

4 GEOGRAPHY  The island covers over 4,000 square miles.  The island is made up of coastal lowlands.  The climate of Jamaica is tropical, hot and humid on its coast, and mild inland.  There geographic location is 18 15 N, 77 30 W

5 MODERN FACTS  Jamaica has won the most world and Olympic medals.  Jamaica is the third largest island in the Caribbean.  Rum is the national drink of Jamaica.  A beneficiary of the Caribbean Basin Trade Partner Act.

6 DEVON HOUSE HERITAGE SITE  Has the city’s best ice cream, pastry and more.  You can take a tour of the Georgian-style house.  The house tells the tale of privileged West Indian society in the Victorian Era.

7 GOLF  Has five world championship courses in breathtaking environments.  Cinnamon Hill Golf Course winds its way along the shores of the Caribbean Sea.  The Tryall Club runs along the shoreline and the edge of jungle ravines.

8 BLUE LAGOON  Over 178ft deep.  Port Antonio’s most famous attraction.  You can enjoy rum punch while watching the colors of the lagoon change with movement of the sun.  The lagoon's mysterious waters fascinate visitors with the many shades of blue.

9 BAMBOO AVENUE  Drive through nature's perfect archway.  the avenue is protected under law.  Along the avenue are a combination of rustic and developed rest stops.

10 DUNNS RIVER FALLS  183 meters high  Jamaica's most spectacular waterfall.  is one of Jamaica's national treasures.
