IS33 ISD - Multiview2 Weeks 5(2) 2008 Follow-up from yesterday! Read this? Lessons learned (in MIS Quarterly paper)? 1. Need risk management 2. Aware of rescuing strategies and tactics 3. Aware of your own existing bias toward interpreting information (if you are a manager) 4. Monitoring is important 5. Learn how to reframe problem / unfreeze commitment 6. IS33 ISD - Multiview3 Weeks 5(2) 2008 Multiview (Avison & Wood-Harper) A contingent methodology (non- prescriptive, but not random!) Multiview A 5-stage methodology Incorporates SSM, ETHICS and other structured (hard) approaches – pick the right ones for the problem situation Multiview 2 – 1998 More of a framework requires mediation amongst 4 components: organisational analysis, socio-technical analysis and design, information modelling and technical design & construction Avision & Fitzgeralds observation was that mid 90s onwards saw the era of methodology reassessment. pp.542 -
IS33 ISD - Multiview4 Weeks 5(2) 2008 Multiview 1 The 5 stages – see fig 25.1 and fig 25.3 (Avison & Fitzgerald) Stage 1 = SSM Stage 2 = functional and data modelling ( requirements specification) Stage 3 = ETHICS (see fig 25.4 in A & F) Stage 4 = interface design (HCI) Stage 5 = technical design
IS33 ISD - Multiview5 Weeks 5(2) 2008 Multiview 2 Organisational analysis Information modelling Technical design & construction Socio-technical analysis & design See fig 25.8 in A &F for the main changes from Multiview 1 to Multiview 2.
IS33 ISD - Multiview6 Weeks 5(2) 2008 Recap on the first half of IS33 A people-oriented ISD toolkit for you? Have you now got more tools in your analyst toolkit? Are you beginning to see similarities amongst ISD approaches /methodologies? Note the scope of different methodologies (see fig in A & F) Study on failure cases – have you learned some lessons?
