Do Now 1/14/13 In order for a metamorphic rock to become an igneous rock, what must happen? In which layer of the Earth do convection currents occur? The theory that the oldest rock layers can be found on the bottom. _______ are extinct volcanoes found on the ocean floor.

Do Now 2/11/14 Describe the role the Sun plays in the water cycle.

Do Now 2/12/14 1.List the oceans from largest to smallest. 2.The flat ocean bottom covered by fine sediment is called the ______________. 3.A natural resource that cannot be replaced quickly is called ______. 4.Mt. Saint Helen’s is an example of a ______________ volcano.

Do Now 2/13/14 1.How are rocks classified? 2.Soil is composed of what four things? 3.What is the difference between a body fossil and a trace fossil? 4.How is Venus’ atmosphere different from Earth’s?

1.What is humidity? 2. What is relative humidity? 3. What dew point? 4. What is a psychrometer?

What is humidity? Humidity is the amount of water vapor or moisture in the air. The air’s ability to hold water depends on air temperature. As the temperature increases, so does the air’s ability to hold water.

What is relative humidity? Relative humidity compares how much water vapor is in the air to how much vapor the air can hold.Relative humidity Relative humidity is given as a percentage. Saturated air has a relative humidity of 100%.

What is dew point? Dew point is the temperature when the water vapor turns back into a liquid – condensation. Air can become saturated when water vapor is added to the air through evaporation or transpiration. Air can also become saturated as in the case of the glass of water, when it cools to its dew point.

What is a psychrometer? A psychrometer is an instrument used to measure relative humidity. It is used to make two readings of temperature. One is a dry bulb reading and the other is a wet bulb reading.
