2 Race to the Top 3 Overview 1. State awarded $37.8 million on December 22, 2011 2. $18.9 million is allocated to 322 participating LEAs, according to the Title I formula Grants range from $498 to $2,038,932 50% of funds (~$9.7M) distributed among 15 districts 3. $18.9 million is allocated to state-level activities to fund five of NJDOE’s state-wide initiatives Common Core State Standards (CCSS) Instructional Improvement (IIS) System Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Educator Evaluation Pilots Charter School Expansion 2

4 State Level Activities Project Areas 1 & 3: Common Core State Standards Create model curriculum, aligned assessments Scaffold model curriculum for special populations Award teachers for submitting model lessons Project Area 2: Instructional Improvement System Contract with vendor to create IIS Fund implementation for all priority schools Fund competitive sub-grants to districts Project Area 4: Educator Evaluation Systems Build NJDOE capacity to manage EE4NJ Implementation Fund 2012-13 teacher and principal evaluation pilots Project Area 5: Charter School Development Increase capacity to improve charter application and renewal review process 4

6 Key Milestones December 2011 NJDOE received Grant Award Notification and access to12.5% of funds February 2012 Eligible districts submitted MOUs indicating intent to participate in RTTT3 March 2012 Districts submitted draft Scopes of Work to NJDOE April 2012 NJDOE submitted a draft State Scope of Work to USDOE May 2012 NJDOE reviews district Scopes of Work, revises State Scope of Work June 2012 NJDOE reviews district Scopes of Work, revises State Scope of Work July 2012 NJDOE received final approval of State Scope of Work and access to remaining 87.5% of funds Districts began to receive final approval on Scopes of Work and received access to allocations NJDOE had first monitoring call with USDOE program officers August 2012  NJDOE will establish an amendment process for LEAs  NJDOE will submit LEA monitoring plan to USDOE September 2012  NJDOE will submit Annual Performance Report to USDOE  USDOE will conduct a one day on-site review of implementation October 2012  Districts will submit first monitoring report 6
