What Is Work-life Balance?  Ideal balance between work and the rest of life.  It is an aim in every society in today’s competitive environment.

Goals Of People  Having it all-fame, family and fortune is the goal of many people in today’s world  Work-life balance is especially difficult for women as a: Wage earnerWage earner Family protector & nurturerFamily protector & nurturer

Two Spheres Of World  Public sphere of work  Private sphere of home and family  The terminology is balancing between two separate spheres  In reality, women exist on a continuum in which they traverse the false boundaries of either/or distinctions while being immersed in both world simultaneously

Home Vs. Work  With the growth of global competitive capitalism, more women are encouraged to participate in the workplace  Women embraced a male model of single-minded career focus, and the result is an epidemic of childlessness among professional women  By the time a woman is married and settled enough in her career to think of starting a family, it is often too late  “Don’t get too educated; Don’t get too successful or too ambitious”

Home Vs. Work  Woman who voluntarily leaves her career to raise children often find that the way back in is extremely difficult.  The burden of family and home management still falls primarily on the woman, even if she has a job.  A cultural shift towards more balance in work- life, with less acceptance of a career-based definition of success driven by workaholism.

Benefits Of Work-Life Balance  For business- through easier recruitment, improved retention and easier service delivery  For the economy- more skilled and experienced people to work  For mothers- women who can spend quality time at home as well as providing financial support

Employers’ View  High level of recognition that allowing employees to better balance their work and life outside work is to the benefit of the business  However, the employer’s first responsibility has to ensure that the organization meets its goals

Strategies For Change  Services designated to meet the basic needs of employees working extended hours  Benefits designed to improve health and morale and to reduce job-related stress  Information and counseling services designed to address family needs  Alternative work arrangements

The Keys To Success  Know what you want  Plan according to your wants  Avoid the taps of traditional marriage, in which mother bears primary domestic and childcare responsibilities

Care For Yourself First  Break down all of your demands  Make time for yourself  Create your own space  Break the cycle that is pulling you down  Be creative about how you really want to live

The Help Of Technology  Technology has made lives run more smoothly  Technology allows mothers to check their children via mobile phones, beepers, instant messaging and the traditional phone  Allows working women to check in with their employees when they are away from the office  Allows to extend the workplace into homes so that women can spend time with their children  The emergence of home-business

Good Advice “My advice for working women who follow the same busy schedule I do is, first, just ease up on yourself a bit. Understand that you have achieved quite a lot in doing a good job and working hard. Second, drink more water- I’m up to five liters a day” “My advice for working women who follow the same busy schedule I do is, first, just ease up on yourself a bit.
