7. How Does It Work (Smooth)?  The main job of the smooth ER is to synthesize lipids. Lipids are natural occurring molecules including fats, waxes, sterols, fat-soluble vitamins (such as vitamins A, D, E, and K) and others. The main functions of lipids include energy storage, as structural components of cell membranes, and as important signaling molecules.  The Smooth ER is also in charge of detoxifying materials and transporting them to the Golgi Apparatus GABE
