14. Native American Battles The Sand Creek Massacre- U.S. troops led by Colonel Chivington slaughtered more than 200 men, women and children in the Cheyenne tribe. Custer’s Last Stand- Sitting Bull led an attack first and then General Custer led a counter attack which was unsuccessful. (Custer’s Last Stand) Wounded Knee- U.S. troops came into Sioux tribe and demanded weapons be put down. Fight broke out and hundreds of Sioux were slaughtered.
