Water energy-summary

Hydroelectric potential on the world is estimated as2,857 TW. But this potential is not exploited and processed into electric energy only its 5,5 % (0,152 TW). In big hydro-electric power stations the production of electric energy has reached anticipated level and electric energy from other unconventional sources will be rising up until 2025.

Hydropower plants provide about 5% used energy in the world. Many rivers in the developing countries are suitable for building damsw. The disadvantage of using water energy is the fact that building huge objects forces people to resettle, takes away the land and has bad influence on the envirnoment. Poland has little reserves of water energy. Nowadays in Poland about 127 big and 300 small hydroelectric power stations is working.

Only 1/3 of the water economic potential from water plants is used on the world. Most of all it is connected with a great cost of building. Nowadays water energy is the second biggest (17,6%total share) source of renevable energy and the biggest renevable source of electric energy. Itaipu–the dam on the river Parana in South America which is the biggest hydroelectric power plant in the world.

Share of different parts of the world in the number of installed power from small hydroelectric power stations.

Reserves of hydro –electric energy in the world

In Greece 7,5% of electric energy is produced in hydro stations wodne (the biggest Kremasta i Kastrakion in Etolia); the total power installed in the plants is 11,1 thousand of MW (2001) In Greece 7,5% of electric energy is produced in hydro stations wodne (the biggest Kremasta i Kastrakion in Etolia); the total power installed in the plants is 11,1 thousand of MW (2001)

Hydroelectric power plant in Żarnowiec is the biggest highest – pumping station in Poland and one of the biggest in Europe.
