1. Background Status for China Shellfish quality is directly influenced by the cultivation environment. Due to various reasons, the quality evaluation technique in shellfish cultivation environment and related supervision system of China is faultiness, desperate in need to catch up with developed countries in order to change the situation where our shellfish products are restricted to export. Status for U.S.A The National Shellfish Sanitation Program (NSSP) has a history of 85 years. NSSP made so detailed provisions to form a perfect monitoring system. The ripe experience of USA in this field is significant to our shellfish sanitation management.

Aim of this item The cooperation with NMFS will help us to deeper understand the monitoring and evaluating technology of shellfish cultivation environment in the USA as well as related supervision system and management experiences. It will be significant to improve our country’s shellfish cultivation management technology and ability.

4. Key research project We have start-up a National Key Technology R&D Program about the safety evaluation for sea shellfish culture areas from 2009. Existing monitoring and evaluation system Fishery eco-environment monitoring network organized by the Ministry of Agriculture in China is the main monitoring system with the purpose of environmental administration of fishery cultivation production areas in China.
