+ Parallel Structure ★ Make sure items in a sentence have equal grammatical elements Not Parallel: They practiced on a track, racing along a dirt road, and in a field. Parallel: They practiced on a track, on a dirt road, and in a field.

+ Active and Passive Voice In passive voice, the subject is acted upon: it recieves the action of the verb. Active voice: The movie features Joseph Fiennes. Passive voice: Joseph Fiennes is featured by the movie. In active voice, the subject performs the action of a verb

+ Sentence Fragments Even if a sentence has end punctuation and correct capitalization, it can still be a fragment. Fragments: 1. A new telephone with numerous special features. (no verb) 2. Of course, rings with a special musical tone. (no subject) 3. There on the desk, beside the computer. (no subject or verb)
