BROADCASTING Broadcast systems generally allow the possibility of addressing a packet to all destinations by using a special code in the address field. When a packet with this code is transmitted, it is received and processed by every machine on the network. This mode of operation is called Broadcasting.

ANALOG BROADCASTING Conventional broadcasting in which the picture, sound and other information is transmitted as a continuous wave form which is a direct representation of the source material.

DIGITAL BROADCASTING Broadcasting in which picture and other information is converted into and transmitted as a series of discrete bits which represent the picture or information being broadcast.

ISSUES REALTING TO DIGITALIZATION Manifold use of image and audio materials in various programs Digitalization of audio, video and data, and networking of their use with the goal of promoting ISDB and data broadcasting Establishment of an online link between program production systems and external data networks and allowing interactive communications with external systems to achieve common ownership of data/information.

DIGITAL TELEVISION Digital Television promises a clearer, sharper picture for viewers. It also promises a reduction in the interference and ghosting that currently affects the picture for many viewers in built-up areas or hilly terrain.

DIGITAL TELEVISION SERVICES TELEVISION PROGRAMMES INTERACTIVE ACCESS TO PROGRAMME RELATED INFORMATION SUCH AS SCORES, STATISTICS PROGRAMME GUIDES ON SCHEDULE AND CONTENT INTERACTIVE QUIZ SHOWS

CONTD… INTERNET FEATURES –EMAIL –WEB BROWSING –ONLINE NEWSPAPER, WEATHER, SPORTS

DIGITAL RADIO BROADCASTING Digital Radio broadcasting is a new method of assembling, broadcasting and receiving communications services using the same digital technology now common in many products and services such as computers, compact discs and telecommunications. It allows better reception than the current AM and FM radio broadcasts.

MULTICASTING Multicasting is a delivery mechanism that can deliver real-time multimedia broadcasts in the easiest, most efficient way from one source to thousands of receivers while saving network bandwidth and CPU cycles.

MBONE Full form is Multicast Backbone. It is a virtual network. It is layered on top of portions of the physical Internet to support routing of IP multicast packets since that function has not yet been integrated into many production routers.

USES OF MBONE WHITE BOARD HEAR AND SEE LIVE LECTURES LISTEN TO RADIO STATIONS THAT BROADCAST ON THE INTERNET VIEW LIVE PICTURES OF SPACE BOUND NASA ASTRONAUTS ON THE SPACE SHUTTLE

MULTICASTING ON THE INTERNET INTERNET BASED TV SHOWS ON-LINE CLASSROOM MEETING WITH RESEARCHERS FROM AROUND THE GLOBE (COMPUTER CONFERENCING) WEBCAST
