In the beginning of the play, Theseus and Hippolyta are discussing their upcoming wedding when Egeus arrives upset. Why is he so upset?

He wants his daughter, Hermia, to marry Demetrius, but she loves and desires to marry Lysander.

What is the ruling Theseus gives to Hermia? In short, what are her choices?

She will have to choose to die or live in a nunnery unless she marries Demetrius as her father wishes her to do. Due to these choices, the couple decides to elope, telling Helena who of course tells Demetrius hoping to get on his good side again. So they all go off to the woods.

Why is Oberon so upset with Titania?

She will not give him the Indian baby/changling.

So what does Oberon decide to do to Titania? What does he order Robin/Puck to go find and bring back?

He decides to put Titania under a love spell using the nector from the flower cupid’s arrow hit, hoping she falls in love with a “vile thing” upon waking up from her sleep, as it will make her love whatever live creature she first sees upon waking up.

After seeing how Demetrius treats Helena, what does Oberon order Robin/Puck to do? Does he do this?

He orders him to put the love necter on Demetrius so he will love Helena back, but he puts it on the first “Athenian male” he sees instead which is Lysander. Lysander wakes up and first sees Helena, but Helena does not believe his love for her as she thinks he is just mocking her.

Why does Bottom want a prologue written for the play?

He wants one written so it can be read to the audience, assuring them no harm will come to them or the actors, as he thinks the ladies will swoon or panic at the lion and the characters killing themselves.

Which character does Titania fall in love with upon awakening that Robin has given an asshead to?

Bottom

At this point in the play, Helena is loved by both men and even believes Hermia is in on this plan to mock her. What does Hermia think about Helena though?

Hermia thinks Helena has stolen her love Lysander’s heart from her.

Identify the character that says this line: “Tie up my love’s tongue, bring him silently.”

Titania

When Oberon realizes Robin’s mistake involving the mortals, he orders him to correct it. He tells him to keep the men from fighting. He also orders Robin put the remedy on someone to correct things. Which character does Robin put the remedy on and which character is left under the spell at the end of the play?

Lysander gets the remedy and Demetrius is left under the spell, so he loves and marries Helena at the end of the play.

Why does Oberon decide to take the love spell off of Titania? Give at least two reasons.

She gave him the Indian boy while she was under the spell and only cared for Bottom. Also, he pities her for loving such a vile creature and wants her back to her old self, loving him.

Finding the two couples asleep in the woods and learning of their more balanced love, what order does Theseus give?

He orders that they should follow him and Hippolyta to be married in the temple.

So the couples marry, the fairies come into the palace and bless them, so Robin has the last lines of the play…what does he basically tell the audience to do?

Clap if you enjoyed the play, but if it offended you think of it as merely a dream.
