Global ocean, atmosphere and land surface models are developed as components of assimilation and forecast systems as well as for addressing the weather and climate research questions. The GEOS-5 data assimilation system (DAS) is based on the GEOS-5 Atmospheric General Circulation Model (AGCM) integrated with the Gridpoint Statistical Interpolation (GSI) Analysis. Some of the input data for non –real time use are obtained directly from other sources such RSS, ECMWF, NCAR, … All the input data are in BUFR format Currently working with NRT AIRS data team at GES DISC to acquire AIRS radiance data from LANCE. 11 Quality Assurance GESDIS Staff - August, 201011 Online QA - Input observations are screened before the analysis - Output QC by QuADS (range check, hydrostatic check,..) Offline product quality assessment - Monitoring meeting held weekly - Various analysis and monitoring tools are developed and used E.g., OBS2HTML diagrams, forecast skill scores, O-F and O-A stats, comparison with data from other centers (NCEP, ECMWF,..)

12 Data Distribution GESDIS Staff - August, 201012 NRT data and MERRA via GES DISC - NRT data distributed to subscribed users after predefined subsetting. - MERRA: On web-based online data system with various tools for data search and order (Mirador), subsetting, data transport (ftp, openDAP, GDS), visualization (Giovanni).
