3 Construction Skills Needs 2,320 construction jobs are expected to be created in the West Midlands every year for the next 5 years Jobs in demand in the next five years include: Wood trades and interior fit-out - 770 Electricians - 340 Bricklayers – 230 Building envelope specialists - 220 Construction process managers – 200 Source: CITB

5 Apprenticeships Target Market Employed learners age 16+ Level 2 & above SMEs & large employers TORC, Cannock & Rodbaston Offer Bench Joinery Site Carpentry Plastering/fitted interiors Brickwork Painting & Decorating Tiling Multi-occupations Domestic heating Construction & Built Environment Delivery Flexible – in line with employer need Typically 2 years with day release Offered through CSkills or City & Guilds Progression to higher level Apprenticeships

6 Traineeships Target Market Young people aged 16-24 Capable of attaining Apprenticeship in 6 months Level 1 & 2 SMEs & large employers TORC & Cannock Offer Multi-occupations Construction Delivery In line with employer/learner need Up to 6 months Maths & English Work Experience Small vocational qualification Progression to Apprenticeships

8 Workplace NVQs & Commercial courses Workplace NVQs Increasingly popular in sector High demand by the industry - local companies wanting us to up-skill and gain their staff an NVQ qualification. Some construction companies want us to deliver NVQ`s to all their workforce Commercial Courses CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) – mandatory for anyone working or visiting a construction site First Aid Health & Safety NPTC Plant machinery, fork lift, all terrain vehicles Distance/E-Learning

9 Construction Growth 2015 Apprenticeships 400% growth for plumbers 200% growth for construction Workplace NVQs Growth in the building industry & requirement an NVQ/CSCS to get on site has brought about a vast increase in numbers. Study Programmes 86% increase in applications for electrical installation 236 enrolments on construction programmes so far 36% increase in plumbing enrolments

10 Employer Case Study Level 3 Apprenticeship in Construction & Built Environment Delivered at TORC in Tamworth 5 days a week every 6 weeks off the job, on the job assessed in workplace Started with 1 group of 20, 8 months ago and now has increased to a further two groups.

11 AgriSTEM Academy Opening Sept 2016 Expanded Construction Provision Growth in Apprenticeships & Traineeships Sustainable Construction Study Programmes Commercial Courses in Solar Thermal, Solar Photo Voltaic, heat pumps, Construction power based equipment, Gas Safe, CAD/CAM, Site Management, Civil Engineering & Plant Construction & tractor simulation
