How to write a paragraph by Ms. Krauser

Writing a paragraph is just as easy as talking to a friend. The trick is to stick to the topic! Here are 3 easy steps to help you.

Step 1: Tell me what you are going to tell me example: Wilbur’s life was completely different than other pigs because he was born a runt. Your first sentence should tell me what your topic is. If your going to tell me about the effect of a particular cause….say in Charlotte’s Web… This sentence lets me know you’re going to talk about the effects of Wilbur being a runt.

Step 2: Tell me in detail Give some examples to prove your point. Example: Wilbur got to be raised by Fern because he was a runt and most runts don’t survive in a litter. He was also bought by Fern’s Uncle, Mr. Zuckerman, instead of a stranger because Fern wanted him near her. Living in Mr. Zuckerman’s barn meant that Wilbur met Charlotte and became her friend.

Step 3: Tell me what you told me The last sentence is where you get to “wrap it up”. This pulls your first thought all the way through the paragraph and sums up what you’ve said. Example: Wilbur was a very lucky pig to be born a runt.

Here’s what the runt paragraph looks like altogether: Wilbur’s life was completely different than other pigs because he was born a runt. Wilbur got to be raised by Fern because he was a runt and most runts don’t survive in a litter. He was also bought by Fern’s Uncle, Mr. Zuckerman, instead of a stranger because Fern wanted him near her. Living in Mr. Zuckerman’s barn meant that Wilbur met Charlotte and became her friend. Wilbur was a very lucky pig to be born a runt.

Writing a paragraph is easy: Just remember: 1.T ell me what you are going to tell me 2.T ell me (in detail) 3.T ell me what you told me
