3 Problem Description Unfamiliarity with countries of the world Propose an easier way for children to learn about countries

4 Objective & Introduction To spark interest towards learning about various countries Educational and Fun Easy to Use, User Friendly

5 Functions & Interfaces: World Page World Page  Political world map  Main item on the page  Countries may be indistinguishable from each other  Country select box  Allows quick and easy selection of countries

6 Functions & Interfaces: World Page – world view Picture box control displays picture of the world Map is divided into rectangles that are invisible to the user Rectangles respond to cursor movements over their borders A triggered rectangle is visible to the user and a text label is displayed Clicking on a highlighted region zooms into it

7 Functions & Interfaces: World Page – regional view Each country responds to cursor moving over its border This event will highlight the triggered country and display its name Clicking the mouse on the highlighted country will select it Selection triggers 2 events –Selected country flashes –GLOBEY displays a bubble with the name of the selected country

8 Functions & Interfaces: World Page – country selection box Drop down combo box control containing country names When user clicks on the country name, the combo box responds to the triggered event associated with this action Event response leads GLOBEY to display country name in a bubble

9 Functions & Interfaces: Country Page Close-up country map  Picture box containing close-up pictorial view of country selected National flag  Picture box containing flag of selected country  National Anthem Country information

10 Functions & Interfaces: Comparison Page Category selection  Allows user to choose one of the 2 categories for comparison List box/Countries to compare boxes/Graph button/Graph region  Used for country comparison

11 Functions & Interfaces: Comparison Page – category selection Each button responds to its associated mouse click event Countries are listed in descending order base upon category selected

12 Functions & Interfaces: Comparison Page – countries to compare Event response leads to the text box highlighting indicating that it is activated List box responds to its item select event This causes the name of the selected country to appear in the highlighted country text box The graph button responds to mouse click event This leads to a bar graph to be displayed to compared the selected countries

13 Functions & Interfaces: Standard Features – GLOBEY GLOBEY is a cartoon character of the globe Program assistant Assistance is provided by clicking on GLOBEY Disable dynamic events Information is conveyed through: –Popup textbox –Pre-recorded sound file

14 Functions & Interfaces: Standard Features – menu items & nav. tabs Menu items  3 Buttons on top of the page  Exit  Hide/Unhide GLOBEY  Sound On/Off Nav. tabs  Certain nav. tabs are present under the menu items  Navigation tools for moving between different pages of the program

16 Design Constraints Maps are designed to fit into the predefined spaces in the windows The amount of information about a country is limited All images are accessible by user. Care must be taken so that they are not removed Simple appearance and functionality for younger users Image quality vs. Program size

17 Assumptions User is familiar with basic Windows operations (mouse, keyboard, etc.) The system running the program meets all requirements

18 Limitations Only a limited amount of information will be available The program will not have the ability to be readily updated The graphics will have a limited quality There is a limited display area

19 End Product Description GLOBEY’s World will be a simple graphical program which will enable children to learn more about the countries of the world.
