Mobile Phone authorised Services through Near Field Communications Hans-Christian Haugli, Elin Melby, Josef Noll

System view Object Identifier Object User centric services Object centric services User Equipment Principle mode of operation Object Identifier 2 Object 2 UE 2 Alternative mode of operation

User Equipments - details l The User equipment (UE) initiates the communication between the user and the object l User equipment includes –NFC reader –NFC ID –Communication capabilities l UE communicates with Services (S), Object Identifier (OI), Object (O) or other UEs User Equipment

User Equipments - signalling l 1 User equipment (UE) initiates Object Identifier (OI) –Using simply ID or –Using encrypted key l 2: Object Identifier provides ID and object communication capabilities l 3a,b initiation of service request, either to user centric services, object centric services or communication with the object l 4: Results from service request UEOIObjectServices 1 initiates 2 provides ID 3a service request 4a service provision 3b object service request 4b object service provision 4a service provision Object2 4c alternative services UE2

Object Identifier – detailed specifications l The Object Identifier (OI) carries the ID and the communication capabilities of the object l It has NFC characteristics, but might be intelligent (sensor) l OI communicates with UE l OI might communicate with Object Device Identifier

Object Identifier – signalling l 1 User equipment (UE) initiates Object Identifier (OI) –Using simply ID or –Using encrypted key l 2: Object Identifier provides ID, link to services and communication capabilities of the object l (sensor; comm to object) Device Identifier UEOI 1 initiates 2 provides ID, link to services and communication capabilities

Object – detailed specifications l The Object is Equipment or devices which the user takes contact to l Examples of such objects are: home equipment, car, l The Object communicates with user equipment, user centric or object centric services and other objects Object

Object - signalling l (Steps 1,2 provide authentication and exchange of communication capabilities of the object) l 3a,b initiation of service request based on agreed communication capabilities. Communication either to user centric services, object centric services or directly with the object l 4: Results from service request, addressing also communication to alternative objects Object UEObjectServices 3a service request 4a service provision 3b object service request 4b object service provision 4a service provision Object2 4c alternative services UE2

Object or User oriented Services – detailed specifications l Services are initiated by the user equipment, based on the information from the Object Identifier. Services might also be initiated by Object l Two types of services, object centric and user centric services. l Examples of user oriented services: weather report, travel information, l Object oriented services are related to how the object can be operated, remote management control and diagnostics, etc. User centric services Object centric services Eksemplene burde kanskje dekke alle objekteksemplene som er nevt på forrige foil?

Object or User centric Services – signalling UEObject Object- and User centric Services 3a service request 4a service provision Object2 5 object/UE info UE2 l (Steps 1,2 provide authentication and exchange of communication capabilities of the object) l 3a,b initiation of service request based on agreed communication capabilities. Communication either to user centric services, object centric services or directly with the object l 4: Results from service request, addressing also communication to alternative objects 4a service provision/request 5 object information 5 UE info, service

Examples of objects l home equipment l car l bus station or bus (or other means of public transportation)

Service ideas - Car l Travel information –Dynamic navigation updates according to changing traffic situation –Weather and road conditions –Prevailing traffic regulations, tolls, controls –Expected travel times l Yellow pages/points of interest –Adds/Information E.g.. find nearest free parking, reserve the parking, pay for the parking l “Alco lock” – the car cannot be started before a negative alco-test is performed, e.g. passed attention test l Personalised entertainment (infotainment) –for driver –for passengers l Key –Access - central lock –Time limited Authentication control –Ignition control & demobilizer l Automatic collection and delivery of data from car sensors –Weather and road conditions, interface to CALM-bus –Traffic information, accident warning etc. l Remote diagnostics and CRM –Remote diagnostics and management control (SW-download) –Allocate nearest (best purpose) service unit –Allocate courtesy/rental car –Call car owner to service garage –Reminders on service appointments l Personalised adjustments of seat and mirror settings l Improved eCall – knowledge of who and how many people are in the car l Electronic Toll Collect user centricobject centric

Service ideas – Commercial vehicles l Driver log book –information about type of trip, distance, time, etc. is loged l Freight information (location, condition, danger, etc.) l Fleet management l Vehicle log book –information about fuel consumption, average speed, etc. is loged user centric object centric Typically, the same services as for cars will also apply to commercial vehicles

Service ideas - Public transportation (station or on-board) l Automatic ticket ordering and payment l Dynamic timetable information specified by route of interest l Vehicle management –Allocating needed vehicles in busy hours due to demand user centric object centric

Service ideas - Home equipment l Remote diagnostics and management control (SW- download) user centric object centric l personalized infotainment –stored services home area filters personalized user interfaces personal settings –on-demand services
