History Malé Declaration on Control and Prevention of Air Pollution and Its Likely Transboundary Effects for South Asia was endorsed by ministers of environment of South Asian in April 1998. The implementation had three phases. With the completions of the baseline studies and national action plans the first phase is completed. Phase II is to put in place expertise and monitoring equipment has already been initiated. The third phase would provide meaning full information for the policymaking and strengthening the Malé Declaration.

Institutional Arrangement Central arrangement: Central arrangement: Dr. Youssef Hojjat : Deputy Head for Human Environment- National Project Director Dr. Saeed Motesaddi: Director General for Air Pollution Research Bureau- Project Manager Eng. Sadreddin Alipur : Expert for Air Pollution Research Bureau-project expert Local arrangement: Eng. Touraj Hwmmati: Deputy for Human Environment, Directorate for Environmental Protection, Ilam Eng. Soleiman nejad: Expert for Laboratory Bureau, Directorate for Environmental Protection, Ilam

Phase II Implementing a study tour across the country and determining 8 proposed regions for the establishment of all stations related to the project as follow: Implementing a study tour across the country and determining 8 proposed regions for the establishment of all stations related to the project as follow: Ilam province (west of Iran) Ilam province (west of Iran) Khoozestan province (South west of Iran)) Khoozestan province (South west of Iran)) Mazandaran province (North of Iran) Mazandaran province (North of Iran) Hormozgan province (South of Iran) Hormozgan province (South of Iran) Khorasan province (North east of Iran) Khorasan province (North east of Iran) Khoozestan province (South west of Iran) Khoozestan province (South west of Iran) West Azarbaijan province (North west of Iran) West Azarbaijan province (North west of Iran) Sistan and Baloochestan province (South east of Iran) Sistan and Baloochestan province (South east of Iran)

Plans for next three years 1- Monitoring Plan 2-Plan for Emission Inventory and Modeling 3- Plan for impact assessment including proposed institution:

1) Monitoring Plan The recording pollutants are: The recording pollutants are: Co Co NO2 NO2 SO2 SO2 PM10 PM10 PH, EC, TH, Mg, Ca, ……….. PH, EC, TH, Mg, Ca, ……….. in Ilam Station. Further Suggestion: To measure O3, VOC, UVB, ……. We also need more new stations. We also need more new stations.

2) Plan for Emission Inventory Three main categories of air pollution sources are: Three main categories of air pollution sources are: 1) Mobile Sources 1) Mobile Sources 2) Point Sources 2) Point Sources 3) Area Sources 3) Area Sources Needs: More new stations Implement some project to obtain Implement some project to obtain reliable statistics of emission inventory reliable statistics of emission inventory

3) Plan for Impact Assessment Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) Project Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) Project Supporting NGO’s Supporting NGO’s In order to deal with corrosion an integrated project has been designed to construct some monitoring stations to measure the pollutants which affect these phenomena and also UVB that would be run after the final confirmation as a part of the DoE executive activities.
