4 What is bullying? Bullying is a form of abuse. It is repetitive, aggressive behavior intended to harm another person. It is an imbalance of power and the victim (target) is exposed repeatedly to negative actions on the part of one or more other students.

5 Anti-Bullying Laws Types of bullying covered under the state laws: Discrimination, Harassment, Intimidation, and Cyber bullying. California Education codes: 234, 234.1, 234.2, 234.3, 234.5, 32261- 32262, 32265, 32270, 32282, 32283.

12 Why do people bully others? They want to be accepted by a certain group They do it because other people do it It keeps them from being bullied It makes them feel smarter, stronger and/or better than the person being bullied.

14 Bullying can be: DIRECT Face to face Physical Shoves, pushes, hitting, kicking, spitting, assault Psychological Rolling eyes, dirty looks, uttering threats, extortion Verbal Insults, putdowns, teasing, racial slurs, harassment

15 Bullying can be: INDIRECT Behind someone ’ s back Relational Aggression Telling people not to be friends with a victim Gossip Lowering people ’ s opinion about the victim by spreading rumors Exclusion Leaving out, ignoring
